Time to Deadhead the Annuals and Perennials
Posted on: Friday, Sep 3, 2010
To ensure that your garden gets the best treatment, you need to know when to prune what. Now is the time to deadhead flowering perennials and annuals. You can get a second round of flowers if you do this when the first batch begin to lose their luster.
We avoid giving a specific range in which to keep up the deadheading, because with the weather conditions varying from year to year, they must be reviewed annually. Remember to collect the flowers that you have cut off during the deadheading process as they can promote disease if left to rot. However, once you have experienced the first frost, and the perennials and annuals have died it is time to cut them down and add mulch to the space to prepare it for next years plants.
