Speeding Up the Composting Process

Posted on: Tuesday, Jun 1, 2010

In general composting is not on the list of things to provide instant gratification. Time must be dedicated to the process. Should you be interested in speeding up the normal composting process, there are things you can do. Start by chopping up the pieces of whatever you are composting as small as possible. The smaller the pieces in the pile to begin with, the faster you will achieve the composted material.

Thereafter, turn the heap with a pitchfork at least once a week. The oxygen is then able to reach the centre of the stack along with all the rest. The action will also promote bacteria and fungi to grow. If you do this regularly the time of completion is between five to eight months. And if you are a glass half full kind of person, then that is just around the corner.
